How did the client contact us for the deposition in Belgium?
Our client contacted us about two-weeks prior to the deposition taking place, via our online web form on OptimaJuris.com. This particular job was really exciting for us, because we had a short period of time to put together a deposition that was going to last five-days with a weekend break.
What services did our client need for the deposition in Ghent, Belgium?
For this deposition we provided a local court reporter and an interpreter. We were able to find both the court reporter and interpreter locally that took the train in from Amsterdam. Also, this particular deposition had a weekend break, and having the deposition team local saved on costs because the providers were able to return home and come back on the Monday after to resume their services. This saved our clients on travel fees, accommodations and meals.
Are their any restrictions conducting a deposition in Belgium?
Taking U.S. depositions in Belgium is permissible and in general, you can depose willing witnesses in Belgium without any special formalities or involvement of foreign courts.
